Do research with us

Term-based and run like a lab. You own a piece of a real project, present weekly, and leave with work you can point to.

Research Associate, Machine Learning

Machine Learning5–8 hrs a week

Run experiments on an active ML project, from evaluation pipelines to controlled ablations, and help write up what we find.

You will

  • Implement experiments and evaluation pipelines in PyTorch
  • Reproduce and stress-test recent results
  • Keep clean experiment logs and present at the weekly stream meeting

You bring

  • Linear algebra, probability, and one ML course
  • Working Python, ideally NumPy and PyTorch
  • Careful, honest experimental habits
Time
5–8 hrs a week
Term
Fall 2026 to Winter 2027
Where
Toronto, hybrid
Nice to have
Transformers, vLLM, or an eval harness

Research Associate, Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing5–8 hrs a week

Run experiments on variational quantum algorithms and help write up what we find.

You will

  • Implement experiments in PennyLane or Qiskit
  • Reproduce and stress-test recent QML results
  • Present at the weekly stream meeting

You bring

  • Linear algebra and probability
  • Working Python, ideally NumPy and PyTorch
  • Some quantum computing, from a course or on your own

Where
Toronto, hybrid
Nice to have
PennyLane, Qiskit, or Cirq experience

Researcher, Machine Learning

Machine Learning8–12 hrs a week

Own a research question in the ML stream: set the direction, design the experiments, and take the result to a write-up.

You will

  • Scope a question and turn it into a term-long plan
  • Design experiments and guide the associates who run them
  • Write up results for the group, and for submission when they hold

You bring

  • Strong Python and PyTorch, with a project you can show
  • Several ML papers read closely, and opinions about them
  • The judgement to know when a result is real

Every open role uses the same position form. Name the role you want, and add a CV or a link to your work if you have one. Not after a specific role? A separate form covers general membership.

How we hire

Interest and follow-through, not GPA or program.

  1. Fill in the form

About 15 minutes. Name the role you want.

  2. Talk to a lead

Twenty minutes on the project and what you want from it. No whiteboard.

  3. Hear back in two weeks

Everyone gets an answer. Accepted applicants start with their stream at the top of term.
